In the six years I’ve had the privilege of serving this organisation, I’ve found myself reflecting at the end of each one, marvelling at how busy and filled with success the preceding 12 months have been - and challenging myself, how the next could compare.
Looking back, it’s clear that 2024 has been a particularly special time for Diaverum. Not only has it been a year of significant achievements and milestones, but also one in which we embarked on an exciting future as we become an integral part of the M42 Group of companies.
Six months ago, my interim appointment as M42’s Group Chief Operating Officer was a milestone in the process of integrating Diaverum with the M42 Group. It gave me the mandate to lead us on an inspiring journey to bring together the M42 patient care institutions and Diaverum, creating a distinctive global healthcare organisation that connects 18,000 healthcare professionals across 480 clinics in 26 countries, serving over 15 million patient visits through more than 100 service lines.
And while change naturally brings questions, I am sure we all embrace this change with confidence and excitement for what the future holds.
As I have said before, M42’s acquisition of Diaverum and the resulting integration process I’ve had the honour of leading, are both testament to the exceptional work of our teams globally. With Competence, Passion and Inspiration, you have grown Diaverum into a world-class, premium renal care provider, that stands out in the industry for its unparalleled levels of digitalisation, superior-quality medical outcomes and consistently strong financial performance.
But while we turn our mindset to the new year, it would be remiss not to mention the many remarkable achievements we’ve borne witness to these past twelve months, starting with the entry into our 24th market, Greece. As a proud Greek myself, I couldn’t be more delighted with how this first year has unfolded. The strong foundation we have put in place, combined with our global standards of care, and industry-leading digital innovations, has positioned Diaverum to deliver a step-change in the provision of world-class, AI-enabled, personalised kidney care in the country, underscored by our True care culture. In addition to Greece, we also welcomed new clinics in Brazil, Morocco, the UK, and Uruguay - I look forward to seeing our footprint grow even further in the new year.
None of this would be possible without the engagement and dedication of our staff – which truly showed in this year’s My Opinion Counts Survey (MOC), in which 87% of our employees worldwide took part, setting a global, industry-wide benchmark. We are profoundly grateful for this valuable feedback, which Diaverum is committed to taking on, and embedding into the organisation.
One of my personal highlights for the year, was being able to play a small role in celebrating the very best of our True care culture, at the 2024 Diaverum Awards Finalists’ Ceremony in Madrid. Now an indelible part of our organisation’s DNA, this year-long initiative has created a truly special platform through which we are given the opportunity to celebrate the hard work and steadfast commitment of our people around the world.
Our True care also shone in the darkest of moments. When catastrophic floods occurred in Valencia just two weeks later, our people came together to protect patients, and ensure their continuity of care. As we continue to restore normality and work to understand the impact of such events in the long-term, we can take comfort in knowing that our remarkable team gives us the best possible chance of navigating these challenges.
Looking ahead, 2025 is set to be no less action-packed than the year that has just passed; but, for now, I feel it only fitting to wish you, your family and friends, a happy festive season, reminding everyone that the most precious gift you can give this Christmas is care, True care.
Here’s to an even better, and brighter, year ahead.
