Diaverum was recently invited to participate in a meeting focused on investment opportunities in the Western Balkans, held on 23 October at the Swedish Parliament. The event brought together representatives from Swedish companies with a global presence, government agencies and ambassadors, to exchange views on the topic & help generate new business ideas.

Representatives from Diaverum’s leadership participated in the meeting, including our CFO, Björn Brixer, and Dimitar Klisarovski, Country Manager for Diaverum North Macedonia. The event also saw the participation of Swedish ambassadors to Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia), the ambassadors of these countries to Sweden, Members of the Swedish Parliament, and Business Sweden - an initiative formed between the Swedish government & private business sector to promote Swedish-born organisations globally.

The first part of the meeting included presentations from Swedish companies. During his presentation, Dimitar provided a comprehensive summary of the business landscape in North Macedonia, delivering a holistic outlook while highlighting the potential results that can be achieved. He illustrated this by showcasing exemplary initiatives launched in collaboration with Business Sweden, the Swedish Embassy and the Ministry of Health over the last year. These initiatives included, among others, North Macedonia's first-ever national Renal Expert Academy, a screening project for people at risk for CKD, and the signing of an annex allowing Diaverum and other private dialysis providers to perform vascular access procedures from 2025.

Next, representatives from government agencies, including The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Sida, and the Swedish Export Credit Agency, EKN, highlighted their roles in promoting collaboration, investment, and growth in the region.

The second part of the event featured presentations from Swedish ambassadors stationed in Western Balkan countries, who shared their perspectives on economic and diplomatic relations with the region. The ambassadors from Western Balkan countries followed with presentations around cooperation with Sweden, focusing on potential areas for growth and development.

The event concluded with a networking session, offering participants the chance to connect with potential business partners, discuss ways to strengthen existing relationships, and explore new avenues for collaboration.

Commenting on the meeting, Dimitar said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to present the current situation in North Macedonia and Diaverum’s upward trajectory in this growing market, which offers vast prospects for investors. It was inspiring to exchange views with industry peers regarding the opportunities & challenges, and discover new paths for collaboration.

“We believe there is significant potential for sharing best practices between Sweden and North Macedonia, and we are open to further investment opportunities in the healthcare sector.”

Currently, Diaverum North Macedonia is the largest dialysis provider of the country, with a total of nine clinics (three of which offer pre-dialysis services), and more than 250 staff providing life-enhancing renal care to over 700 patients nationwide.
