From Albania to Uruguay, the Diaverum Awards saw nominations come from all 24 countries in our global network for the first time, making this year’s journey to the Finalists’ Ceremony more competitive than ever before.

Following months of preparation, hundreds of nominations and much thoughtful deliberation from our volunteer judges, our annual Diaverum Awards Finalists’ Ceremony took place yesterday in Madrid, Spain, where a total of five winners recognised from a final pool of 20 finalists. Our 2024 Diaverum Awards winners are:

  • Competence: the IT & Quality departments from Spain have been recognised for achieving the National Security Scheme (ENS) certification with high level in just three months – a process that typically requires a year of preparation and is only successfully completed by 50% of companies on their first attempt. The ENS provides companies with a framework for processing data efficiently and securely. The teams not only demonstrated their skills and commitment in taking on this challenge, but also made Diaverum the first company in Spain's renal care sector to receive this certification, proving that for our organisation, good enough is not good enough.

  • Passion: Marta Olim, d.HOLIDAY Coordinator for Portugal, has been awarded for sparkling with enthusiasm in every aspect of her work, and her tremendous dedication, especially in advancing our global holiday dialysis programme within her own country. Marta consistently goes above and beyond to ensure patients can travel and live fulfilling lives, surpassing everyone’s expectations. This dedication culminated in a local initiative, "Vamos Viajar Juntos" (Let’s travel together), through which she organises group trips for patients and their families to travel within Portugal, meticulously planning every detail. Her unwavering dedication and innovative spirit make her a true exemplar of Passion.

  • Inspiration: The Patient Care Coordination Team from Spain led by example and dared to dream, showing that when we work together we create more and better. This multidisciplinary team, headed by Dr Shaira Martínez, Country Medical Director for Spain, comprising doctors, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists and social workers, introduced an innovative care model that enhances patient care through a holistic approach, addressing all aspects of an individual’s health. Working closely together, the team coordinates patient care by developing personalised treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs. This exceptional model places patients at its core, emphasising not only internal team coordination but also external collaboration with various stakeholders, including referral hospitals, pharmacies, primary care providers, and residential facilities.

  • For life: Hassan Imzgane, Maintenance & Logistics Technician for Morocco’s Agadir clinic, has been awarded for his initiative in implementing a series of innovative monitoring systems, related to water supply, seismic monitoring and other organisational risks. These initiatives included: a water quantity measuring device that simplifies the monitoring of the filling rate of tanks; following the 2023 earthquake that affected Morocco, a monitoring device with a pendulum system, which alerts the clinic of potential earthquakes; in the two isolated treatment rooms, Hassan installed call buttons and a video surveillance monitor to alert clinic staff in case of an emergency; the clinic elevator was also equipped with a video surveillance monitor to alert the clinic team of any issues, such as a breakdown or a patient feeling unwell; finally, Hassan developed a simple solar-powered system to charge multiple patient mobile phones simultaneously.

  • True care: The country team of North Macedonia has been recognised for representing the summation of our values and behaviours. Over the past year, the team successfully completed several initiatives aimed at improving patient care in their country, demonstrating their Competence, Passion & Inspiration every step of the way.  These initiatives included, among others, educational events across the country, organising North Macedonia's first-ever national Renal Expert Academy, supporting a national screening project for people at high risk of CKD, financing the creation of AV fistulas and donating permanent catheters to the state hospital. Moreover, they have also signed an annex with the local Ministry of Health, that will enable them to perform vascular access procedures starting in 2025, currently only performed at state hospitals.

Dimitris Moulavasilis, Diaverum’s President & CEO, commented: “It was a true honour to host the Diaverum Awards for the third consecutive year, which continued to grow their presence as one of the highlights in our organisation’s calendar. Our True care culture, values, and behaviours have continued to shine brightly, serving as our guiding light throughout the organisation.

“Congratulations to all our finalists and winners. I am excited to join in, in celebrating your remarkable achievements and to share your inspiring stories across the organisation in the coming weeks".
