Diaverum Spain recently celebrated the launch of two all-new clinics in the autonomous community of Cantabria, in Northern Spain.
Launched officially in November 2023, the recently awarded tender contract will be in effect for four years, with the possibility of an extension for one more year. This represents a milestone for Diaverum Spain, as it will be establishing itself in a new region and thus, consolidating its position as the leading independent renal care provider in the country, and making it one of the most important geographies for the company worldwide.
About the new clinics
As part of this contract, Diaverum will provide life-enhancing renal care for up to 180 patients in Cantabria, across two locations; the Diaverum Santander Dialysis Centre has more than 1,500 m² of floor space, distributed in 5 rooms and a total of 32 stations. The Diaverum Santander II Dialysis Centre, located just 5 minutes away, has a surface area of 700 m², distributed in 4 rooms and a total of 22 stations.
The clinics will focus on haemodialysis services, whilst making full use of Diaverum’s proprietary digital infrastructure to treat patients. Our holistic approach to renal care will form the heart of the clinics’ operations, with broad, innovative and comprehensive care methods, that will encompass preventive care programmes.
A new benchmark for renal care in the region
The clinics’ launch was celebrated in an inauguration event held on 29 November, with local dignitaries and kidney patient association representatives in attendance.
This included César Pascual, Health Counsellor for the regional government of Cantabria, who had this to say about the launch: “With the inauguration of these two centres, we are making a qualitative leap forward in improving the quality of care and patient care in Cantabria, which is our objective, our raison d'être. The change brought about also means the consolidation of the path taken in the humanisation of health care in a framework of close collaboration between clinicians and providers that supports a new model in which the patient is truly at the centre”.

With the addition of these two clinics, Diaverum now operates 49 clinics across 9 autonomous communities in Spain, where 1,200 healthcare professionals care for almost 4,500 patients, placing it on a continuous upward trajectory to transform renal care at a national level.
